I personally like pico de gallo that is heavier on the onion than the tomato. Usually pico de gallo is served with more tomato than what this recipe calls for, so if you are the type that likes more tomato, simply add one to two more roma tomatoes to the dish.

This simple pico de gallo recipe also uses a jalapeno instead of a more commonly used serrano pepper. If you like more of a kick in your salsa, feel free to use a serrano pepper or any pepper you want for your personal level of spice tolerance.

Yellow or sweet onion will provide a sweeter taste compared to a white or a red onion. You can also adjust the spices in order to increase or decrease the spice level (more cayenne pepper means more spicy goodness).

Ingredients

  • 1/2 small onion
  • 1 jalapeno or serrano
  • 1 roma tomato
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 juice of lime
  • 1/4 bunch cilantro
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cumin
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

Instructions

  • Finely dice onion, jalapeno, tomato, garlic, and cilantro
  • Combine with lime juice and spices
  • Mix and serve on top of any dish
